You lift your hood up,
your skin hardened.
Eyes at the floor,
nothing can touch you,
if there's nothing left.
So sew up the warmth in your chest,
with every breath, til there's nothing left.
You say he world never owed you once,
but you started at the back of the class.
He said: 'Hold your fist and it'll make you strong,
and that clenched jaw will keep you silent,
you're the man, and that's what matters,
you're the man, and that's what matters.'
So you found a girl pretty and warm,
and you call her a thing,
and you will perform,
yeah, just like they showed you.
Now you're afraid she'll leave,
scared she'll run,
so you hold her down before it's begun,
yeah, just like they showed you.
The tears stain your sheets,
as your anger reached those peaks.
You swore you'd never be like your father,
but you ran so far,
you ended right back here.
But you're the man and you'll work this out alone,
you're the man,
you'll work this out alone.
You miss her,
but you don't have the words to say (it).
You're life's in chaos,
but you don't have the tears to cry this day.
What a lineup. So many amazing artists involved in this compilation, and all for a mighty cause too.
On my first play through, so can’t name a favourite yet, but you know your can’t go wrong with Salvation Bill and BE GOOD.
Shout out to Lucy Leave in particular as well, who are shining a light on Oxford’s alternative scene at the moment. Jack Olchawski
